Inform and update governors on current local and national issues relating to schools and the work of the Governing Board. A school to school approach, combined with the increased focus on school governance, will require governing boards to consider how all governors can work collectively, not just in their own schools, but across the wider ‘governor community’. The forums will facilitate governor networking and information gathering through high quality presentations that facilitate discussion and information sharing among peers.

Local Area Forums provide:

• a significant opportunity for consultation, briefing and discussion over current local and national issues relating to schools and in particular to
  the work of governing boards

Regular networking amongst the wider governor community will build local relationships amongst governors to:

• increase sharing of best practice and practical solutions to general governance issues


• increase governor confidence to seek and accept support on local governance issues


• increase trust amongst governors to give and receive peer to peer challenge


• increase governor awareness of the local East Sussex Governors’ Forum


• increase governor feedback to East Sussex Governors’ Forum and County Forum debate


• remove the risk of isolation of governance.
