Course description
We will reference the government's Green Paper on developing a whole school approach to mental health and emotional wellbeing (MHEW) in schools and the newly produced 'Supporting children and young people in their mental health', distributed to all schools/colleges in April/May 2018.
Training objectives
• Legislation re schools’ responsibilities pertaining to MHEW
• What we mean by MHEW
• How governors can support SLT in implementing and evaluating 8 principles of whole school approach to MHEW
• Monitoring staff MHEW
Learning outcomes
To become familiar with the government's recommendations, To identify next steps for supporting SLT, To identify a named lead governor for MHEW in each setting
Additional Information
This workshop is to support governors in understanding how to support SLT in embedding a culture and good practice to support positive practice around staff and students' MHEW in schools. The aim is to appoint a named MHEW lead in each school/college, and also a named MHEW lead governor.
It would be helpful if governors have familiarised themselves with "Transforming Children and Young People’s Mental Health Provision: A Green Paper", published in December 2017
Target Audience
This course is designed for Governors in East Sussex maintained Primary, Secondary, Special schools, East Sussex Primary, Secondary, Special academies, Independent and Free schools.
