Course description

This course aims to support Governors of East Sussex maintained primary schools in their knowledge and understanding of school data using the
Governor Data Pack (Primary). Governors should know how well pupils are achieving, and how their school is performing overall.

Training objectives

This course will discuss the Governor Data Pack (Primary), and demonstrate how it can be used as a tool to inform the governing body about the school's performance. As we go through the Data Pack, we will explain the main performance measures for each Key Stage within a primary school. Understanding school performance data will help Governors to evaluate their school’s strengths and weaknesses, measure successes, and be well placed to make strategic decisions on improving the school. The course will also touch on other sources of school performance data that are available to the school and to the wider public.

Learning outcomes
By the end of the course governors will be able to:

• know how to support school self evaluation using the Essential Data Pack

• understand the rationale and philosophy underlying data analysis in schools

• be able to identify how the Essential Data Pack can help the Governing Body pitch its work at a more strategic level.
