 **Governors should have attended an Introduction to Schools Finance prior to attending this course** 

The aim of this course is to build governors understanding of schools finance and to enable them to make a valuable contribution to the Finance/Resources Committee and Whole Governing Board.


Training objectives

One of the Governing Boards key strategic roles is to oversee the financial performance of the school and ensure money is well spent. Efficient use of resources, particularly in financially challenging times is key to your school’s success. It is important and in keeping with The competency framework for governors that all governors have an understanding of the financial framework schools operate in, the processes and procedures that should be in place, understand and have the skills to exercise their role regarding strong financial management. All governors should be able to understand and question financial information presented and understand the financial implications of plans and decisions.

In part 2 of this finance course aimed at all governors you will get an opportunity to get hands on experience with the type of financial information you may be presented with as a governor. The aim of this course is to build your confidence interpreting financial information and raising questions. Covering financial reporting, benchmarking and efficiency this course will fully explore your role as a governor to promote strong financial management in your school.

Learning outcomes
By the end of the course it is anticipated that governors will:

• Know more about financial governance in schools
• Know more on budget monitoring and benchmarking
• Be able to ask relevant questions about school's financial management

Target Audience

This course is for Clerks and Governors in East Sussex maintained primary, primary special, secondary and secondary special schools with finance responsibilities who have attended 'Governor Training: Schools Finance - An introduction to Finance' course.
This training will be delivered using Microsoft Teams.
