Course description

This course is for you if you are familiar with entering formulas and analysing data in Excel and want to write code to automate Excel tasks, such as formatting a report and performing operations which can not be done using conventional Excel commands.

Training objectives

The course assumes that delegates are familiar with:

  • carrying out basic operations such as data entry and copy and paste

  • entering formulas in Excel and using functions including VLOOKUP and IF

  • performing data analysis such as sorting and filtering

Please note - Writing macros involves inputting lines of sometimes complex program code, so the course involves considerably more typing than other Excel training.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course you will:

  • be familiar with the VBA Editor and will be able to record a macro or create a macro in the code window

  • know how to use variables

  • know how to display messages and ask for simple user input

  • know how to use IF to decide which lines of code to run

"An extremely useful course which has enabled me to automate many repetitive tasks, both for myself and other team members."

(evaluation comment from a recent delegate)
